Professor Gillies McKenna

Director & Chair, Management Group

Professor McKenna is the Director of the CRUK Oxford Centre and he is leading the centre forward to achieve the vision of multi-disciplinary research to drive the development of Precision Cancer Medicine.

Professor Mark Middleton

Professor Mark Middleton

Deputy Director

Professor Middleton sits on the Management Group supporting the Director in his role and deputising where appropriate. Prof Middleton brings a wealth of experience in the development and delivery of early phase clinical trials in Oncology and is supporting the translation of Oxford Science into the clinic.

External Chair, Governance Board

Professor Markham Chairs the the Governance Board, which ensures the Centre’s activities are aligned with those of cancer researchers both nationally and internationally.

Professor Adrian Harris

Chair, Research Committee

Professor Harris oversees the Research Committee, which ensures the Centres investments in infrastructure and networking are strategically, efficiently and transparently distributed.

Chair, Training Committee

Professor Goding oversees the Training Committee, which delivers the Centre’s vision of training the next generation of Cancer Biologists and Clinicians.

Professor Tim Maughan

Networking Lead

Professor Maughan brings his experience of running large multi-centre research programmes and clinical trials to his role as the Networking Lead for the Centre. Tim enables the Centre’s actives to seed and fuel both national and international networks.

Engagement Lead

As the Centre Engagement Lead, Dr Hammond is an ambassador and advocate for the Centre’s public engagement activities. She also supports the development of the engagement strategy by ensuring the team is consistently updated on scientific activities across the Centre.

Strategic Planning Lead

As the Strategic Planning Lead, Dr Bloomfield advises and supports the Centre’s academic leadership in the development and long-term planning of the Centre’s research strategy. Dr Bloomfield oversees a team delivering on the design and execution of projects to enhance the future strategic developments of cancer research in Oxford.

Operations Lead & Centre Manager

As the Operations Lead, Michael puts into action the strategic infrastructure and training programmes vital to delivering the Centre’s vision. As the Centre Manager, Michael is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Centre.

Mr Kevin McGlynn

Technical Project Manager

Kevin is the newest member of the Oxford Centre team. In his role as Technical Project Manager he leads the development and implementation of new software tools to enhance collaboration and networking across the Centre.

Dr Kirsten Emmert

Training Facilitator

Kirsten takes care of the Centre’s training activities including the DPhil Prize Studentships and our Clinical Research Training Fellowships. Her aim is to increase training opportunities for early career researchers and improve existing structures.

Administration & Communications Lead

Lucy supports the Operations Team and Management Group across the breadth of their work. In her role as Administration & Communications Lead she helps to ensure the Centre runs smoothly and the excellent work of Centre members is shared with a wider audience.

Network Administration Assistant

Sophie manages Centre networking events which include the Strategic Working Groups and annual symposium. Sophie also supports Centre activity across a range of administrative projects.

Engagement

CRUK Research Engagement Manager

Charlotte is working to increase interaction between the Cancer Research UK Oxford Centre and supporters to aid Cancer Research UK’s life saving work, through a variety of engagement activities including lab tours and open evenings. Her role is to help local cancer communities engage with and gain a greater understanding of our local research in Oxford.

Ms Nikki Hayward

Ms Nikki Hayward

CRUK Senior Research Nurse

Nikki is responsible for informing patients, the public, and research staff about current research taking place in Oxford and she delivers health awareness and disease prevention information to local organisations. In addition she supports local initiatives for fund raising by opening shops and getting involved with race and relay for life events. Nikki also works within the early phase clinical trials team to deliver new treatments to cancer patients, supporting her colleagues in the fight against cancer.

CRUK Senior Major Giving Manger

Sarah is responsible for encouraging major philanthropic support for the CRUK Oxford Centre to help accelerate the pace of research.
Building on existing funding from Cancer Research UK, Sarah secures additional philanthropic support to recruit more world-leading researchers and to provide more cutting-edge technologies and essential equipment so that we will beat cancer sooner.
