Co-Director & Chair, Management Group

Professor Middleton is the Director of the CRUK Oxford Centre and leads the Centre Management Group. Prof Middleton brings a wealth of experience in the development and delivery of early phase clinical trials in Oncology and is leading the translation of Oxford Science into the clinic.

Co-Director

Professor Xin Lu is the Co-Director of the CRUK Oxford Centre. Professor Lu is an internationally recognised cancer biologist who combines ground-breaking laboratory research with experimental medicine.

Chair, Research Committee

Professor Harris oversees the Research Committee, which ensures the Centres investments in infrastructure and networking are strategically, efficiently and transparently distributed.

Strategic Planning Lead

As the Strategic Planning Lead, Dr Bloomfield advises and supports the Centre’s academic leadership in the development and long-term planning of the Centre’s research strategy. Dr Bloomfield oversees a team delivering on the design and execution of projects to enhance the future strategic developments of cancer research in Oxford.

Operations Lead & Centre Manager

As the Operations Lead, Michael puts into action the strategic infrastructure and training programmes vital to delivering the Centre’s vision. As the Centre Manager, Michael is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Centre.

Network Administration Co-ordinator

Sophie manages the Centre‘s networking events which include committee meetings and the annual symposium. She also supports the Centre’s activity across a range of administrative projects, including facilitating and delivering the biannual University Trust wide competitive research award scheme.

Training Project Manager

Sian is responsible for the management and delivery of all Centre funded training programmes including, Clinical Research Training Fellowships and Studentship awards. She also works on developing new workshops and events for Centre funded students to help enhance their experience working in the exciting, yet challenging environment of cancer research.

Mari-lenna Issaias

Mari-lenna Issaias

Research Facilitator

As a Research Facilitator, Mari-lenna is involved in working on diverse research studies, providing support to research activities while complying with all required guideline frameworks and regulations. Supporting the CRUK Oxford Centre Team with grant writing and funder reporting activities for its portfolio of research infrastructure and training awards, her role is to ensure the team’s excellent reputation and strategy is maintained by promoting research activities and supporting staff members.

Dr Sara Mathie

Project Manager for Molecular Diagnostics

Sara is responsible for the management of the Molecular Diagnostic Centre. The facility hosts a range of novel diagnostic platforms that have the potential to translate into methodologies for the early detection of cancer and improve standard provision of care in cancer patients. Sara’s role is to ensure the delivery and development of projects through the facility that align with the cancer centre’s strategy and vision.

Grants Co-ordinator and Public Engagement Ambassador

Jackie is responsible for financial management of the Centre’s complex, multi-centre grant portfolio as well as playing an instrumental role in the standardising and continued improvement of finance processes and procedures.

Nikki Hayward

Nikki Hayward

CRUK Senior Research Nurse for Research & Engagement

Nikki is responsible for informing patients, the public, and research staff about current research taking place in Oxford and she delivers health awareness and disease prevention information to local organisations. In addition she supports local initiatives for fund raising by opening shops and getting involved with race and relay for life events. Nikki also works within the early phase clinical trials team to deliver new treatments to cancer patients, supporting her colleagues in the fight against cancer.
