Although I’ve not personally had cancer, I have been the support for my father and mother in law through Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and my father-in-law with bowel cancer. Even though I’ve no medical background, I have a plethora of resources available for those who are currently on their cancer journey or have previously been impacted by cancer.
Experience with Cancer Research
After my father’s cancer diagnosis, I created The Hummingbird Centre to support people affected cancer – either personally or through a significant other. The Hummingbird Centre supports not just the person diagnosed with cancer but the entire family unit (aged 7 years and above).
My passion is supporting those affected by cancer to understand their journey, remember who they are, and take control of the impact of their cancer, regardless of the outcome. Equally as important is being there for those who are supporting someone with cancer – they often say “I’m not important, I’m ok”, when really they need support. When cancer enters our world it impacts everyone, not just the person affected by cancer.
