Oxford helps Standing Up To Cancer

Cancer Research UK’s annual fundraising campaign Stand Up To Cancer will be hosted by Channel 4 on Friday 26th October 2018, as a 5 hour live show starting at 7 pm. The TV event will feature incredible patient stories, unforgettable sketches, world class music acts and an abundance of famous faces, all raising vital cash to turn amazing science into game-changing cancer treatments.

Oxford researcher Tim Maughan’s FOCUS4 trial has been partly funded through the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, and will be discussed by comediennes Noel Fielding and Richard Ayoade.

Focussed on colorectal cancer, FOCUS4 aims to improve the stratification of patients into different treatment options. Patient’s tumours are analysed on a molecular level; and then based on the results the patients are enrolled into the most appropriate trial treatment.

The FOCUS4 trial has been the foundation upon with the S:CORT consortium has been developed. S:CORT is a UK-wide multi-disciplinary consortium of clinicians, healthcare professionals, academics and scientists looking to apply cutting edge molecular diagnostic technologies to enable tailored treatment of patients colorectal (bowel) cancer (CRC).
