Michael Selby graduated from Warwick University with a master’s degree in Maths and Physics. He is currently a first year student on the ESPRC-funded Theory and Modelling in Chemical Sciences Centre for Doctoral Training, undertaking training in Theoretical Chemistry. Hear from Michael about his experiences below:

What’s your current research and how could it impact patients?

My research consists of using computer simulations of DNA to investigate skin cancer. Using the well established oxDNA, we hope to simulate in DNA how skin cancer might occur via its interaction with UV light.

Why did you want to study in Oxford?

A combination of the excellent academic environment and the beautiful scenery.

And finally, what do you do outside of your studies?

I play a lot of tennis, squash and football.
